I rarely use a polarizing filter, but when I do, the pattern from the tempered glass shows up in the car's windows. Does this also happen with a circular polarizing filter? All I have is a linear filter.

I use both kinds of polarisers. Not sure I've ever noticed any difference with respect to their effect on glass. I think they are the same in this respect.

There's the "dots" that usually is evident in rear windshields and then there's the rainbow effect on most headlights.
This might be the degree you're using the circ polarizer as well.

I've had it show up before once or twice, really confused me at first as I thought the window was oily. It seems to be a combination of the light and angle of the CP. I got it when the light was low and diffused through clouds. The only way to get rid of it resulted in unwanted reflections on the body from changing the angle on the CP. So...I ditched the CP for the shot and lived with some glare on the window. You could of course merge mulitple photos in post to correct it, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me.

I so rarely use a polarizer anyway I thought that a CPL might be different...guess polarized light is polarized light.
