I took this one at the Mitty last month...

Good concept?
What would make it better in execution?
Has it been done a million times before?
My thoughts....I've had this one on my mind or in my pocket for a while. I really wanted to do it on the radar shooters at the ALMS pit lane entrance but either didn't remember or the placement of the shooter and my access didn't lend itself to doing so.
Execution wise...better light would be better. This was mid-day with very full sun. I would have liked the car to be more of streak, but my sensor was pretty dirty and I didn't want to close down my aperture to f/29 or so.

I think I'd have liked a little more straight on... not completely. More of the guy in shallow depth of field, tack sharp on the radar... and not quite as soft on the car. I think if you could have stacked three elements.... soft / sharp / soft (but not as soft as the car in your shot) it would be pretty cool. I like the idea of the selective focus, though.

I think it's a cool concept. I took a shot in 2001 at Portland of the Corvettes coming down the front straight. I was perpendicular to them as they were passing the pit out, and there was a guy with a gun there. Made kind of a cool shot.
The one thing that bugs me is that I don't know what type of car it is. If maybe there were a way to capture that, maybe with the hat of the guy holding the gun.

Thanks for the feedback. I was working with the elements as they presented themselves to me...the guy was wearing one of those yellow event staff t-shirts (I think he was there to chase people off the skid pad back at turns 6-7) and I don't remember what his hat was....but none of it real attractive.
It's one of those I'll keep my eyes open for at future events and try and make it happen when if I see it. It only took 2 years or so since I storyboarded it the first time to see it in person...so maybe in another 2 years I'll get another shot at it.

If the colours aren't attractive, you can always gun for Black and White. I thin a slightly larger aperture (although EXIF already says f/13 which is larger than I normally use!) might've helped, more of the man more in focus, full on sharp on the gun and the car less masked by selective focus. Good idea though.

I like the idea.
Another option I think would look good...since it is a shot of a radar gun showing the speed of the car, then I would try to incorporate the speed of the car in the shot. A larger DoF and a slower shutter so you get some motion blurr from the car.
