Now that my web host has again let me down (it's the week after an event and my site is currently down)...who should I look at?

Currently thinking godaddy, any others to consider?

http://www.select.net/ - I've had my servers colocated there for over 8 years now.

1and1.com has worked well for me the past four years. Outages are nonexistent and I had one hiccup during that time.

www.f0e.net is run by a friend of mine, pretty manageable for what it is

Pair (http://www.pair.com) has worked very well for me. Unix-based servers, lots of goodies like PHP, custom CGI, mySQL, excellent security, GUIs to make things easy if you want, etc.

I have hostibg through BLueHost, never had a problem, super east to use control panel for adding email accounts and managing everything else, and fairly inexpensive. They also have 24hour tech. support.

I'm maintaining a web site for a client who uses Pair Networks, and it's not too bad. They seem pretty down to earth and reasonable in response time to questions. It seems more do-it-yourself than anything, so if you are comfortable installing your own stuff, then you're OK. Their database stuff is pretty easy to configure.

My own web site is hosted by Lunar Pages, and they seem like a grown up version of Pair (and Go Daddy). Using Control Panel and Fantastico, they automate the installation of several things and really make it transparent, especially if you're not comfortable with installing software.

Yeah, they've always been quick to respond when I've had questions, though admittedly I was heavily involved in Unix geekery in my previous life and haven't had loads of trouble figuring things out. But I think the nice web-based interfaces would make it quite easy for most people. It's been 100% reliable, too. I don't recall having a single problem.

Your recommendation looks quite nice, too.
