All of them are solid (but you knew that before I even started typing). #2 really does it for me. Gorgeous colors.

edit: I'm not sure I love the Porches parked in the lower right hand corners. What are you going for there?

I like the first one...and the second it great. Nice shots. The pan of the Mazda in the trees is nice as well.

John,

Did you get a 500mm lens?

I didn't think you had one last year.

Great stuff!

In both these instances, (and you could say the same for the SunTrust and TelMex shots) to me, the lower right is the foreground of the image... I feel there is much more tension... especially with Mine Star car. I also like how the first of the esses trails in the background.

Nice to have that in your quiver.

Yep, they are all really good....

For me it's #2, Good God look at all those DP's! Makes me excited for M.O...... I remember when there were only six!

And I'm kind of partial to #3, I've been trying something similar at Mid-Oh for awhile now and just can't really get it to work the way I want it. I got one decent one from Superbike last year, but haven't been able to replicate it . Oh well, keep trying I guess....

Nice stuff as usual John.

Yeah, I love #2 with the big variety of DP's. A whole rainbow of color there.

love the heatwaves :-D #2 gets the mark as being my favorite of the bunch! I like seeing the whole pack all bunched together like that :-D (I assume the long lens helps with that?)

#2 really is a sweet shot. I wonder if a polerizer might clean it up a bit. Just a thought...

IIRC, JT has said more than once (paraphrasing here:

Repeat after me: $100 piece of glass, $5,000 lens.

:D

Actually... I used a polarizer. This was at 11:30am - the light was pretty harsh all weekend...

Erik: it's a $200 piece of glass and it drops in at the back of the 500mm ... first time using it. LOL

Of course the deficiencies are minimized with it placed in front of the sensor. I have to say, all-in-all, it probably will come in handy with so much of our shooting happening in high and early afternoon light. But I doubt if I'll run out and buy one for the front of my 70-200mm.

Ha! Did Hell freeze over!? :D I priced one out for the 300mm the other day, it's $250! Ouch!

They're pricey, to be sure. But, then again... try a replacement sunshade on a 500mm.

You could get some round A/C ducting (if you could find a size that's close in diameter), or some flat sheet metal and bend your own. :)

For stills, sometimes I'll take some stiff electrical wire and a small alligator clamp, attatch that to the tripod and clamp a piece of cardboard or something then bend it into place so it blocks the sun!. Works REALLY good, much better than a lenshood! :D
