Does anyone have any info or a link to a how to on extending the cable on a Canon RS-80N3 remote release? This is for the 20D/30D type of release, not the miniphone/Rebel type.

Look up 'Extension Cord ET-1000 N3'. It's a 10m extension cord from the days of the EOS-3 and 1V which also use the RS-80 N3.

Here it is at B+H

Found it: http://www.chrislevis.com/extend.html

This method has several advantages. You can vary the cord extension from 5' to 30'+, using a splitter you can control multiple cameras with one switch, and it's about $10 for materials.
