Hot on the heels of Canon's new announcement comes news from Nikon on an impressive suite of Pro products. If you're a Nikonian, you're bank account is going to be in a world of hurt. Two terrific zooms, 3 drop dead gorgeous super telephotos and a two new heart stopping bodies. Check them out:

wow! That's some exciting news! Glad to see Canon and Nikon bashing heads, this can only be good for us consumers :) I like the price on that pro body as well! quite a cut under Canons prices, but then again they always seem to be when it comes to pro bodies.

I for one, didn't expect Nikon to come out with a larger chip camera! I was under the impression that they were firmly rooted in the cropped sensor? well, this is pretty awesome! Especially considering (my opinion and experience) that Nikon wide angles seem to be alot better towards the edges than Canons do! I run a Nikkor 18 on my 1Ds2 :D

DX lenses will work in HSC mode, which is nice. I'll be looking forward to seeing some high-ISO samples.

John is probably unfortunately right about the future of my bank account.

D300 now, D3 in the spring, then swap my 14-24 f2.8 for my 12-24 f4. That's the plan. Where's that APN discount link? :)

Let hope that the typical Nikon supply chain problems have been resolved!

I hope that the 'old' 400 and 500s drop in price with the addition of the VRs! However, it's too bad the selling price of my D2Hs just tanked!

I'm all for the D3... other than the lack of a Canon mount. I really like the fps, full frame, MP size, dual CF slots, price, horizon feature (even if I don't use it for most many shots), a true Live View with AF, Hopefully (although not likely) this will demonstrate that there are people out there (like me) who are interested in a 1-series body with a full frame sensor that is not all about huge MP.

So any Canon shooters going back to 'the dark side' because of this?

IMO, switching back and forth is dumb, a waste of money and time learning the new system. If you are switching from Nikon to Canon, you can easily mount Nikkor lenses onto a Canon body. If you can get past no AF and a manual aperture ring. But even then, I think it's not good to keep switching. Odds are, you won't have better (or worse) photos with either camera you choose.

I need to get in line for one of these D3's!
I am glad they finally put in dual card slots but bummed they didn't increase MP...D2x is 12.4.

Thanks for posting the links John!

Too bad for the prices of all these nice new babies here in Europe. Will need to buy an extra lottery ticket this month.
