I got great help last time I posted a thread, thank you all.

There is a business in town that specializes in old English sports cars and exotics in general. They have E-types everywhere, the occasional new and old Aston Martins, rare Rolls, etc. I don't know where they advertise or who buys these cars, since Eugene isn't that big of a place.

All I really want is to be able to set up some photoshoots of their cars to expand my portfolio and experience, and they change stock a lot so I would love a recurring gig.

However, I think that if I offer to do it for free then I am doing a disservice to the photographic community as well as myself, because I know how much time and effort goes into just one shoot.

What's a fair amount to ask for in this situation, and uh, how should I bring it up to the owners? I have a guy on the inside setting up a meeting with the owners next week where I will bring in my existing portfolio. Any input is much appreciated.

Asking to shoot a car for your portfolio and for experience isn't a bad idea. Offer to give them a print or two as a 'thank you'. If they like the images, and interested in your services commercially, go from there.

I don't like the idea of approaching a client to say "hey, wanna pay me to shoot some pics of your cars?" When I hear that, I think door-to-door sales (hey, you need my services! give me money!)

I do a very limited amount of these with rare cars or owners who I think might be a good fit for future business. I offer an edited, metallic 8x12 in return for their time and generosity.
