just the few shots where I quickly turned and took a photo of the cameras before going back to the cars. I thought it kind of interesting.

poor guy..
http://www.fakelag.net/gallery/d/6729-1/DSC_6469.jpg

he was shooting right next to me.. and it's honestly the first D200 I've seen, so, I took a photo.

whoops.. there's another one
http://www.fakelag.net/gallery/d/6739-1/DSC_6576.jpg

got a kick out of the Speed guys shooting for CBS. Their camera's assistant dude was walking backwards and almost tripped over me though :(

you know where you are when the L lenses just fade into the background

this guy was using a flash on the corner and prob blinding the drivers in the process (if the sunset wasn't blinding them first), so:

http://www.fakelag.net/gallery/d/6724-1/DSC_7913.jpg

he chimped.. a lot. I did too, but it was my first time ever shooting motorsports. I'm hoping he didn't have the same excuse :D

Using a flash on a pan really won't affect the driver. A lot of people say flash head on isn't necessarily noticeable.

Well, that's Sykes coming out of the porta-potty. L0L and I think (not sure) that could be John Waugh in the first shot.

And the secod DX200 shooter is Bob Chapman.

figured you might know who a couple of them were :D

Chapman shmapman. Forget him. The guy talking to Chapman is far more interesting. He played a smokin' violin solo on "Find Another Fool" (and other songs) by Quarterflash, he's been a motorsport writer for Road & Track, he handled PR/media duties for 2004's (Porsche) Speedster 50th Anniversary celebration at Pebble Beach, and he continues to record with and arrange for noteworthy country and pop musicians in Nashville including Garth Brooks and Patty Loveless.

Chapman just takes pictures.

Caught me at one of my finer moments I see. I look miserable there when really I was just in the process of slinging the camera up over the shoulder. Had you given me 5 more seconds I would have looked much happier. :D

Unless the "poor" comment simply was a commentary on the wages that motorsports photographers are pulling down these days, which in that case is very, very true. :D

Joel,
Thanks for the lead off shot in your post on ALMS Photographers.
Just a note on the guy panning in the corner. Looks to me like he hasn't given much thought as to why the fences and barriers are there. It's not "Play Station II" out here. He's at pretty high risk in that spot.
No photo is worth the ultimate price.

Actually, John, that is a great place to shoot and really isnt that much more dangerous than most places we stand. He is in a perfectly good place to shoot and I have shot there many times. They have cones up to keep you from getting out to the really good spot, though it would be slightly more dangerous. Still I would be a lot more comfortable standing there than I was at many of the designated spots at Miller.

Besides if you got off your cell phone and went out and shot you would know that. :D JK.

Shooting the entry to the Festivals is unconcerning compared to some of the places we go. In fact, walking from there, just up the front straight, past the fencing and shooting a 1/3 rear pan is a heckuva lot scarier, IMHO.

Surprisingly, the lack of Armco and K-wall at Miller didn't concern me very much, given the distance from the track to me. The tracks that scare the $%^# outta me are Lime Rock and Mosport.

My apologies if I've hijacked the thread. JT, feel free to move this if you wish...

I'm the guy behind the fella in the corner in the shot below. I shot from the corner after he was finished and I really didn't feel it was any more/less dangerous than some other spots. Because of the line the cars are taking and the direction they're travelling, I don't think it's anymore dangerous than sitting on the outside of a corner (which is probably more dangerous IMHO). I think the perception of danger is greater because of how close you are to the cars in that corner.

Although, I am glad that I wasn't standing there when this happened:

I was referring to you having to lift that massive lens. :)

I don't know why (maybe because I forgot I was in continuous mode) but I have a whole sequence of you lifting that lens up  . What lens is that btw?
