In case the $2500 in your pocket weighs too much you can replace it with this tripod;

bet it's a nice tripod! to rich for my blood though, haha!
If you think a $7 plastic tripod is the same as a good well built tripod and head, you probably haven't used a good one yet :-)

the plastic does the same thing.. holds the camera still... but you're right, i've never had the chance to use an expensive tripod. but shooting motorsports i never really needed one.

I shoot landscapes, and I can tell you a better made tripod is well worth it! The cheap plastic will work (I've gone through my fair share of them!), but then again lots of things in the world work, and some work better :)
A few hundred will get you a fine tripod, and a few hundred again a nice tripod head. But then I suppose there are those who could spend 2 and 1/2 grand on tripod legs, the same folks who spend a million dollars on a car only to use it a few times a year :eek:
For someone who doesn't use a tripod very often, and only in good conditions, anything to hold the camera still will probably do just fine! No sense in spending money on something you don't need, I'll agree with you wholeheartedly on that!

While I'm a big fan of Titanium...seems a bit over kill in this application.
More of a marketing gimmick...IMO

My big Gizto was $900 (used) without the head and I love it, but don't use it as much as my smaller $300 one
This Titanium TP is one for the Dentists

wow, I guess when your hiking through the backforests of whereever going to get a shot that no other human could the difference of 1lb (or maybe less) is a huge deal, my only question is how much does the camera and ball head and the rest of the stuff you need wiegh?
don't really know if the actual tripod offers anything more than what a 100 bogen does either....

The Manfrotto Carbon One 440 is a very light, very stable tripod with a center post that can be cross mounted to cantilever your camera out over your subject. The center post can also be inverted to mount your camera below the tripod for low angle work. I use this pod with a 4x5 and all my digital bodies. Not cheap, but a good packing tripod if you have a lot to carry.
