Anyone use gps with tracking to geo tag your photos? Its helpful to remember what turn you shot a particular car at or where you were for static shots. I travel alot so this sounds like a cool idea to me. I'm curious if anyone is already doing this or owns a unit with track memory for opinons. Next gen cameras will probably come with gps as a feature for just this.

I'm not sure of the benefits to me. Most guys I know can tell YOU what turn your shot was taken from ... :) Seriously, though... I'm sure there will be applications for it in some forms of photography... and I guess I'd be interested to hear of any ideas someone has thought of for motorsports... but what turn I took a shot from is not one of them. Plus, if I got a turn that's not identifiable, I don't want anyone else to know either. LOL

Yeah I was trying to relate it to motorsports some how and that was a bad example lol. Rally races would be good though especially Paris Dakar

I've always thought it was a nifty idea... and there is some software out there (even if Microsoft wont let it out) that will map photos from a similar geographic area together into a 3D world. I'd find it fun just to view all my photography on a map (little dots for each photo... when one area gets saturated maybe the colors change, etc.). Is it practical? Nah... just kinda cool. I'd not want to spend the money on the upgrade and wouldn't want to have the extra mass in my camera (or worse, sticking out the side of the camera).

Wow... California must look like a total blackout... LOL -

The "virtual world" idea has been discussed extensively... I heard discussion of a project where everyone would submit travel photos with GPS tags embedded with the goal of allowing a site visitor to literally view buildings from different angels (and different authors) all over the world. While it sounds ambitious, if you think in terms of a Wiki-Photo application, it could be amazing. Then again, I'm sure some 16 year-old spammer in Netherlands would hack the tags and basically turn the world upside down...

It's called "Sea Dragon". Look for the demo of the Notre Dame Cathedral towards the end
