This is an open invitation to all.. in any discipline (automotive), to post your SINGLE best shot of 2007. I'm sure you have 100s to choose from and would love to wow us with all the talent oozing out of your ears (try q-tips) ... but you get ONE. Post ONE SHOT. Post two, you'll be deleted.

For some reason, I keep coming back to this image... not sure I can really explain why. I like the sense of chaos... which I'm quite sure is the sensation as you drop into the belly of the corkscrew. I like the light, I like the shadows... the color all seems to work... and the C6.R coming into the frame seems to extend the same sense of chaos and increases the tension.
So... while I have others I really like... this one keeps me coming back.

Choosing just one isn't easy, but I'd have to say that it is this shot:
http://www.unitonestudios.com/portfolios/07_YIR/images/07_YIR_09.JPG
I just don't know why... I think I like how it's something different, yet something that is very 'me'. I really like how I was able to capture all the elements of the corner (round building, open cockpit car, painted corner, etc.) in a different perspective that I normally see this corner.

I may yet change my mind, its really tough to choose one (and we've still got 11 days left! ;-))
Anyway, I choose this for now; my second ever car to car tracking shot. Technically a relatively simple shot: choose location, work the light to get the contrast, hang out of car and fire of a few frames at 1/40 & 1/60 using VR.
For me its got just the perfect ratio of road/car/background and the right blend of sharpness in the car vs motion in the frame. Finished off with a wonderful subject painted in the perfect Diablo colour to create a vibrant contrast against its surroundings.

I shoot a lot of different types of Racing from ALMS to NHRA and this is one of my favorite images of this year it is the image that I use as wallpaper on my computer. This was taken Saturday night just after sundown during the final round of the ALMS series at Laguna Seca. The original image was in color but I adjusted it to B&W in lightroom and it just worked. It was a tough call as I shot over 30 events this year so it was a tough call. Enjoy.

That's a lovely shot, Cedric. The distant fog really conveys a sense that the car is moving into the unknown. And, essentially the only color in the photo is the red stripe on the middle of the car matched to the red outline on the road sign. Those two elements really pop. Well done.

Best..?
Hmm..
Crikey.. I guess that I shot something like 60,000 or 70,000 images last year.. maybe more.. Some weekends were better than others.. Some tanked, big style.. Pau and Porto stand out in the WTCC (street races provide a different opportunity).. Macau was cool and I got to grips with Monza again this year, especially in the LMS and the WTCC..
But Spa 24 just didn't work for me at all until about midnight on the Saturday when i finally hauled my arse into gear and got something together.. and Valencia LMS was just a downright disaster..
But I guess Le Mans was probably the "best" meeting for me.. I like the place and the shear scale of opportunity seems to inspire me more than it outfaces me.. sure, every year it becomes a little more difficult, but that can be part of the challenge..
I have therefore chosen this picture from dawn at Le Mans as my "picture of the year"..
Why..?
Light, colour and atmosphere.. sure.. but mainly because the shot was planned.. and I like it when plan comes together.. especially when the elements lend a helping hand (rising sun and low lying early morning mist over the fields).. The shot ended up looking pretty much like I hoped it would when I set out to get it..
I wonder if I will be on my own there again next year..?
Season's greetings to you all..

Though I made more images than I care to count in 2007 there were several that came to minds eye when I saw this post. Picking one? Well, I too find the light at Le Mans spectacular and dawn the best. Here Liz Halliday and Jacque Villeneuve blast into the dawn through the "S" du Tertre Rouge.

...approaching the right-hand kink/hump where the Mercedes flew into the trees in 1999, soon before Indianapolis. I usually try to shoot late light there during the race and then haul @$$ on my scooter to nearly the same spot on the other side of the track to get the hump shot at sunset.

OK this might not be the best photo, so to speak, but somtimes it is WHAT you capture, not HOW you pull it off. I took this shot at Laguna Seca at the final round of the AMA Superbike series, where teammates Mat Mladin and Ben Spies were only 1 point from eachother, Ben being with that 1 extra point.... Ben was leading the points chase by the way. Anyways, Mat had been leading the entire race with Ben not very far off his wheel. They came up the hill and were lapping a slower rider, Matt had to go around the outside entering the corkscrew, Ben dove up under as the lapper left the apex... Mat went wide, Ben stuck it in there wiht the better line and crossed Mat's wheel in a CRAZY way........ and I got it all in my camera. I got the sequence from where I was standing, this 1 shot I think shows the most, looks the coolest etc... Well, Ben kept his head down and won the race, and also wont the championship. Good on ya mate...
So it isn;t exactly the best all around photo, but it was a pivital moment in the series and well, it doesn;t look all that bad, does it???
Thanks!

I agree with the comment that others have made - it IS difficult to pick just one! I hope that JT will let this fly, but having to pick just one, it has to be this young Ferrari fan that I captured while everyone else here seems to have been at Le Mans. This is my son, Spencer, on our FABULOUS father-son trip to the USGP this year. Perhaps you'll see us at Le Mans soon....

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m150/Echo63/BCOZ9100-1.jpg
certainly the hardest one to repeat.
Old holden at Barbagallo Raceway during the "Biodiesel Supertrucks" race meet,
the driver had the tail end step out as he Exited Cred corner, he corrected, and then lost it again as he hit the grass. this was taken a second or so later, as he got it back under control whilst still sliding across the grass.
this is the best shot as he slid across the grass, if you look closely you can see lumps of grass through the back window.

Wow, this is tough... This year was the first year I had the opportunity to shoot F1, Petit LeMans, Craftsman Trucks, and stock cars on an oval. I am pretty fond of those images, but, I think my favorite shot from this year is this:

Taken at ALMS @ Mid-Ohio. It certainly isn't the best shot I've taken this year, but it is my favorite because it was the ONE new shot I have found at Mid-Oh this year.... at least new to me...

http://tswphoto.smugmug.com/photos/236233169-O.jpg
I like the morning light. I like that it showcases VIR's full course and Oak Tree Bend specifically, which aren't often used for motorcycles and provide the kind of scenery I associate with racing and racing photos from an era prior to the current. I like that the subject is a BMW, a machine not usually associated with racing, except "back in the day." And I like it because it attracted a modest but meaningful amount of attention, the kind of attention that continues to pay dividends today.
Roll on '08!
Cedric: If this were a contest, you'd get my vote. Great shot!

I had a chance to shoot a lot of amazing cars this year. I went from just doing this as a hobby to finally getting paid to do it, so this was a big year for me. Strangly enough, my favorite image was from my trip to Road Atlanta. I went there for vacation, but I still had the camera slung around my neck at all times. This is the shot that I look at all the time and I never get sick of. I like that it capture the Ferrari's speed as well as the details on the car making it almost look fake.

No I didn't, and oddly enough, I've been asked that question quite a few times. The bridges in Miami all have colored lights underneath them. I don't think pocket wizards would even reach that far...

Don't know if it's my best, but I just looked at this one again and thought it had some nice elements to it.

The one I like best changes frequently and is usually the most recent one that I am working on, so picking just one is rather difficult.
This one may not be my best shot but I guess I like it because of the quality of the light, the sky and the fact that the rest of the shoot was not going very well (things that were out of my control), so I was pleased to be able to pull this one off in the end

This one is not the sharpest, or the best lit. I think it is interesting though and it seams to be my favorite, at least for now, from last year.

Wow I know how hard those kind of shots are. I love the sky and the little smoke off the rear tire. Good going!:D

Not exactly a favourite, just a recent shot I'm not bored with yet.

I'm really having a problem determining my one best photo... but I really like this one.. maybe because its more recent than the others?

This is Colin Edwards during the USGP race at Laguna Seca. There are many favorite shots from this event, but I particularly like the red/white/blue balance here.
Happy Holidays and all the best for 2008.
