I've just invested in a rig kit from Automotive rigs and would appreciate any tips about shooting with it in particular

1) My widest lens with VR is 24 mm - my Nikon 12-24 is more suitable but no VR - is it worth, or even possible getting the camera further away from the car, with increased rig movement in the hope the VR will make a difference? Are people using all 4 poles which come with the kit?

2) I can attach the kit from the sides - but what the hell do you attach when you want the rig right in front or behind the car? All I can seem to find is plastic.... Or do I now need to add a jack/ramps to the kit I carry around to get right under the car?

Most people don't use VR / IS for their lenses. Just make sure you're pushing the car, not driving the car, and practice minimizing camera shake when pressing the shutter (or using a remote).

Dunno about the front, I don't have any experience with that kit.

I dont have VR/IS/OS etc on my 10-20 sigma and its shoots just fine. The right locations and super smooth asphalt are key ingredients. I have a rig that is based on the same concept as the automotiverigs.com rig just not their brand and I found that riding a skateboard with soft tires eliminates any movement that is created from steading the camera while pressing the shutter
