Does anyone have a media contact for Nascar for photo credentials? I know its kind of last minute but I would like to get more information about obtaining a credential for the Samsung 500 this weekend in Dallas.

Thanks,
-Todd

Probably the best shot is to call the track and talk to the press office there ( or have your editor do so).

NASCAR doesn't handle credentials at that level. They only handle hardcard apps ... and you'd better have some serious editorial clout before applying for that. ;)

You need to apply at the local level. Chances are you're WAY too late. You will need an assignement from an editor of an accredited media outlet on the publications letterhead. It probably will help if the publication has a history of NASCAR coverage. You'll also probably need to document that you're on someones liability insurance... (publications) etc.

Also, you should know, some tracks will not accept a FAX application. Hard copy only.

I'm just guessing, but you're going to be hard pressed to even get them to allow you to apply at this late of date. And, you'd better be representing someone they WANT coverage from. If you're running an assignment for "www.Ilovecars.com" etc., I wouldn't try. Save your name recognition for when you have a legitimate assignment. You don't want them putting you on file as a "wanker."

Nice gallery, by the way.

Speaking of which, does anyone have experience being credentialed for F1? I understand it's a nightmare.

You don't ask to shoot F1... they ask you.

ACCREDITATION GUIDELINES FOR THE 2008 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP (http://www.fia.com/mediacentre/Accreditation/F1/2008/f1_procedure.html)

Basically, if you are 'local' (which means working for a publication in the country the race is in) you need to be one of the top ~10 photographers shooting and you apply to the national representative. If you are shooting an event in a country other than where your publication is from (IMO, someone's best chance of getting credentialed) you apply driectly to the FIA. But even then, there are some big hurdles with circulation #'s etc.

I always love the hard card requirements... that you must have shot at least 14 events in the previous year and that at least 280 photographts were publisthed in press.

And as JT mentions... faxed applications are not accepted.
