Hey All,
I was just wondering what you event photographers were doing these days with gas/diesel prices getting pretty high.. Are you still towing big trailers or driving motorhomes to events? or flying in and selling online ? or maybe just trying to stay local? Have you downsized your travel equipment ?

I've been shooting local racing events for years, local meaning 2 hours or less traveling time.. but i'm thinking about shooting other events that require traveling and trying to figure out which way to go about it.

I set up my business model from the beginning to sell everything online. Kept my startup and operating costs down although it might have cost me some impulse on-site sales. I just need to make sure I get the word out at the event during the driver's meeting so they all know where to find my photos.

As for traveling, I know plenty of drivers so I can usually catch a ride to an event if I need. It is all about economics. If the sales are probably going to be worth it to justify the travel expenses, then you travel. If not, and you could loose money by attending an event, then stay at home and work on other stuff.

Thanks for the response Aaron.. I think thats the way i'll start out in this new area of Photography.. My Camry gets good highway milage and I can pack a ton of equipment in the trunk. I'll save the Motorhome, trailer and on-site selling for a later date.. lol

Great Website BTW.. I thought the "Electric Reality" link was going to be some sort of electric car web site.. lol. the video stuff is really interesting.. Pretty soon they won't even need actors anymore.. just hire you to do all the animation and graphics.. :)
