So I was browsing through the LAT shots at McLaren, looking for an illustration for a story, and couldn't find what I was looking for--I needed a vert, and they were 95% horizontal. Makes sense--F1 cars are flat and move fast, so it works compositionally. But that has nothing to do with the layout requirements of a given story.

Just something to think about for all you track dudes, and maybe a broader note for the rest of us. What's a funny angle for you may be what an art director's looking for. Plus, covers are usually vertical. 'Always makes sense to do something out of your comfort zone. Keeps the brain young.

Yo.

I really like vertical shots to show off the atmosphere around the track. Also, some really tight shots of cars/bikes are nice in verticals. I try to get a sample of each of them, but I tend to get more horizontals.
