Looking for some serious critique of these. I already have my own ideas for improvements but looking for independant thoughts. Thanks!

Bill: If I can be direct, I have my issues with rig shots. Not that I simply "don't like" rig shots... that's not it at all.

What I don't like is rig shots that allow the shot to be about the rig.

Unfortunately, I feel (just my opinion) is that's what you have here. The rig is wagging the dog.

I shoot car-to-car... so maybe that's where my head differs and perhaps why I have a different view of the situation. But what I'd like to see is the background become the focus of the rig. I realize the distortion is in play due to the wide angle lens, but for me, that's part of the redundancy I continually see. A bent bug eyed or bulbous car with the background doing a carousel nausea blur in the background.

So if I had a suggestion, I guess it's think about your background and try to think beyond the rig. All we do has photographers when we stage shots is try to creat illusion... commercially, you want to "sell" the car within that illusion.

Your interior shot comes closer to what I'm talking about. It's a refreshing look at a motion shot. And, that probably sums up the challenge... give me a trick motion shot... (using a rig) not a "rig" shot.

Hope that makes sense,

JT

Direct is good as I know your intentions.

I took this shot with a suction cup on the door of a Porsche Caymen and had him drive around some orange pylons I have. My intention here was to make it look like an autocross run. And that, I think, is getting closer to the background thing you are talking about, no?

Personally I would love to have used the cones with the rig as well, but since my rig attaches under the car we would have run into the cones and I have yet to find away around that issue. Plus I would love to use a real twisty windy road rather than a parking lot, and I think that also would be more of a background thing as you mention. I'm just scratching my head trying to find such a road that I think would be safe to do this with, but I think I may have just thought of one such place...

Glad you like the interior shot as that composition is a personal favorite of mine.

Were the original shots taken down, or are they just not showing up for me?
