Hello Everyone,
My name is Jon Barrett and I live in Woodland Hills, CA (a suburb of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley - also known as the Porn Capital of the World! haha.) I currently work for Edmunds.com as a Vehicle Data Editor but do Freelance Photography/Journalism on the side and have just recently joined the Motor Press Guild. I have had both writing and photography published in a few different places, ranging from Jalopnik to Edmunds/Inside Line and Cycle News to Forza Magazine. I hope to one day transition my career to Photography/Journalism as a Full-Time gig, but for now am more than happy with Freelancing while I build my portfolio/reputation.
To showcase my photos and writing, I started Lateral-G Photography (http://www.lateralgphotography.com) and have, albeit slowly, been evolving the site to better represent who I am and what I do and hopefully will have my major redesign done soon.
I shoot with all Nikon gear. I have a D300, 16-85mm VR, 50mm f/1.8, 70-200mm f/2.8 VR, and SB-800.
I can usually be found at local car shows and meets out here in Southern California experimenting with my still/event coverage shots or out in the local canyons (usually Mulholland Highway) working on my action shots. Just about a month ago I got the opportunity to attend an SCCA event at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA and thoroughly enjoyed my first experience shooting an actual racing event as well as Autocross and look forward to finding more opportunities to do this again.
I appreciate all comments and critique on my photos and look forward to seeing what everyone here thinks as I am always looking for a way to improve my techniques.
