We went live with our new direction, what do you think of the new site (http://www.dperceptions.com)? Thanks.

Edit: After further checking, it seems to be my wireless connection at the hotel. Any type of animation seems to be pretty slow.

Looks pretty good, but on my wireless connection (which seems pretty fast at the moment) it opens kind of slow and when moving from image to image, it takes a while. Maybe the res is too high on the images?

It might be just my connection at the moment so I'd be interested if anyone else notices the speed.

Hey thanks! The files are only 465x700 and about 230K each, so they aren't terribly large.

Yeah, the transitions on my computer seem a touch slow and stutter occasionally as well - especially when I'm clicking through them without giving it enough time to buffer for the next one in the slide show. I'm on a fast home cable internet connection. An image at 465x700 could easily be kept around 100k or below. That much data can definitely make a different in load time and how smooth your gallery works.

Is it broken? Took too long to load... I clicked out.

File sizes have been greatly reduced to improve load times.

Much faster.

Site loads pretty quickly for me but the portfolio playback has some lag, it stutters/jumps when I try to click on an image and fast-forward to it.

I mean this in a constructive manner but don't the pictures feel a little bland? I checked your flickr as well and there's some cool shots but there's no sense of motion or action, it just feels like someone wheeled the car into the frame and parked in with some asphalt and grass in the background. The one shot you have on flickr of the Porsche Spyder chasing the Mazda P1 through the 'S' turn would be a real cracker with some motion or sense of action in there. It would've been great to see a slow pan following the Spyder out of the turn with the Mazda slightly blurred from motion blur and the Spyder being the focus trying to creep up and overtake (http://www.flickr.com/photos/dperceptions/3327501425/sizes/l/)

I would agree. I'd like to see more at /250 like this: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3216/2920427320_cb753f67ba.jpg?v=0

instead of 1/3200 like this: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3277/2933176902_67b811fe37.jpg?v=0

Shawn McClelland:

Thanks! I am glad somebody finally said something about the work rather than the site loading :) What kind of connection do you have? I sit on a pretty fat pipe, so I forget to worry about load times. The portfolio is JS rather than flash because I have been trying to keep it mobile friendly.

On to your cit. Are you saying my flickr seta are bland or my portfolio is bland? The reason I ask is because you mention a lack of motion, but most of the car images in my portfolio have motion in them. My Flickr sets are not intended represent my best work. I do agree that I spent a great deal of effort freezing the action; i suppose i was concentrating on focus and sharpness rather than motion. Something for me to consider Thanks for the words!

Brent Smith:

Thanks for the comments! I do agree that of those 2 pictures, the one with track blur is more compelling, but you are looking at my Flickr pool and I have most everything in there. Sometimes editors want images of frozen cars stopped in time and others want a blurry mess. We have to shoot for all contingencies.

Thanks!
