I have never shot at Miller (or been there for that matter), so I am hoping some of you can give me the Cliff's Notes precis on what the track is like. On TV it looks like a vast emptiness.
Thanks!

It is vast emptiness.
Some good mountain backdrops if there isn't dust everywhere.
Take a hat and lots of water.

It is vast emptiness. But you can make it work. It also depends on what course they are using. Lastly, there is no glass too big for this track. But.. if you think outside the box, you'll get some nice looking stuff.

John, thanks for the inspiration. That is some long light, was it morning or evening?

That might be a problem as far as attaching it to my D2Xs :D Also, they focus backwards.

Actually, both. And you're spot on... morning or late day. The mid day is AWFUL. Also, these were shot in July... they now race in May. The light is a completely different color. Go figure?
The thing about Miller is to not worry about not having a long enough lens. When I first arrived I thought the weekend was going to be a total loss. Back then, I only had a 400mm.
But guess what... if you could shoot Miller tight you'd miss what Miller is all about.
Remember to approach the weekend like a photographer... NOT a car buff. Sure, the cars are the stars, but this is an event... there are so many photographic opportunities. People, paddock, pits... and of course, the landscape and how it all fits together as a story. Heck, even the architecture is unique.
Broaden your thinking... think of your weekend in its entirty.. not one practice session of track corner at a time.

Only if you use a Nikon adapter on that new gear of yours. :)
