What do you guys do when you have multiple clients interested in images from the same event? This is of course after you are done celebrating the fact that you have more than one client... :)

Lets say you have two different publications interested in images from the same race. Do you charge both of them the same day rate and not let them know about each other? Do you let them know about each other and charge them less? Do you split your images in half and show Gallery X to one publication and Gallery Y to the other? Do you post the photos and let them fight over who gets what? Do you show all of them to your favorite publication and let them pick a few first, then give the rest to the other publication?

Just wondering how you working pros handle stuff like this because I'm starting to get some interest from a few different sides.

Thanks mucho!

If you are going to an event (race/Pebble Beach/etc) on your own dime and looking for people who may be interested in your work then it's fine to double dip or triple! If a mag is sending you someplace seems like they should get first choice and the other mag since they are paying less would get second pick but if pub #1 wanted to be pricky about it they'd claim all the keepers. .Sounds tricky. If the clients are different such as a tire company and a magazine or a magazine and a manufacturer then there wouldn't be a direct conflict. Two competing mags might have a problem and you run the danger of pissing both off at you unless you are upfront about it.

it all depends on who covers your expenses, and what your agreement is.

For me, I pay all expenses out of pocket and sell photos individually. I tend to have 3-4 clients for each race, but I make sure every client gets exclusive images. Most of them know about my other clients, even in situations of conflict. They don't mind as long as the images I deliver to them are high enough quality and unique.

if a client is paying your expenses, you should give them first dibs on all images, and if you have other images to sell on an individual basis, then go for it as long as they aren't conflicting. I wouldn't suggest trying to have more than 1 client pay either a day-rate or all travel expenses as you'll get burned in the long run
