Hyundai was nice enough to let me participate in a media drive event here in Ann Arbor. I am still working on writing an article but i'm not much of a writer so it is taking a while. Anyway I found it funny because Morgan and i were talking in a thread in the event section were he flipped what i was saying in a very smart way and in short said i should try and get more shoots, and what i found at Hyundai was a disk of his photos :)

But anyway enough of my rant, this is the 3rd car that i got to drive and here are a few of the photos. i wish i had some more time with it they wanted it back :)

All comments are welcome, i am trying to learn.

OOO, is that the new RWD one?

Side window lines are a bit odd, but a nice looking car overall.

Nice photos as well.

Thank you, Yes it is the new RWD one. The cars that i drove were the
- 2.0T car with the Track package (brembos, wing, stiffer)
- 3.8 V6 base with both Auto and the 6MT

I really liked both of them, it took me a while to get used to the clutch because it is feather light and the one in my G35 is bowling ball heavy. The other thing i noticed after being in the car is that the line that starts shortly before the door handle and goes to the back of the car sticks out a lot more then it looks like in photos. (in a good way)

g35 clutch is bowling ball heavy?

lol compared to the clutch (not stock) in my mustang, my friend's g35 clutch feels like I'm pushing on air :D Guess it's all relative. I've driven a few manual cars, and so far I like heavier clutches, but maybe cause that's what I'm used to driving every day. Got to drive an S5 the otherday, that also felt to light, and a long throw

Maybe mine is messed up :o , but now that i have been driving it again its not bad but when i first got back into my car it felt very heavy.

so maybe a kids bowling ball :)

I really like the composition on shot #2. I am also a big fan of bold colors and I like how the increased saturation of the car itself really makes a (in my opinion) somewhat boring color for that car really pop. However, the greens surrounding it really look over saturated and detract from the car. I am no photoshop wiz, but I am sure there is a way to keep the color sat of the car while lowering that of the rest of the scene. I think that would make an already good photo that much better.

Talking about heavy clutches, you haven't driven my classic Saab 900.... lol

I generally like the compositions of these (though, the car in #1 seems to crowd the edge of the frame a bit). The only thing that really bugs me is that it looks like you photographed three different cars (colors are wildly inconsistent). Perfect selection of f-stop in #2, IMHO.

Heavy clutch is ok. I can't drive... well let's say.. normal cars that have a soft clutch. The car looks nice. Wonder how it rides. Second shot looks nice.

It isn't how heavy the clutch is, it's how it engages. My Speed6 didn't have any progression. It was binary: stall it or traction control kicks in. Fixed with a TSB.

We now return to the photos....

2 looks very good. As for the color, it could change because of the lighting and the mica or other inorganic pigments they put in the paint that reflect light differently. If you look at the whites, the white balance looks pretty close.

Chad - Well i have not driven yours i did learn to drive on a 85 900 Turbo, i dont remember it well it started to leak gas pretty soon after i got from the hubcap shop :) but i do remember the shifts being far apart. And the i could not figure out how to get it to reverse for a will.

Bob, I see two colors and i was waiting for that comment. 3&5 were taking mid day in the sun and the rest were taken at 4ish but storm clouds coming in and in the shade so i could not really replicate the color. Oh and 6 is a different car but i don't think you meant that.

Jon, I will work on a edit with what you said. It will not be hard to do. For that photo i liked everything popping because i was not thinking of it as a car photo so much as just a photo with a car...if that makes any since.

Thanks for the comments everyone

a few more things.

1 - i wish all the pavement was wet
2 - the rest the photos from the day are here - http://www.speed-photos.net/gallery/8356876_hTrPG#548057087_jMFAR

3 - I just wanted to say that the only reason i got to participate in this event was because of twitter. I follow Hyundai and they said something about planning a media event in Ann Arbor so i sent them a message, that led to an email, then ended with me (Speed-Photos) being with Auto Week, Car & Driver and some others. Pretty interesting what can happen when you ask, you may just get lucky

I played with the color some more, this is only for paint color but i wanted to test it before spending the time doing it right. this looks pretty close to my eyes.

I like #7 with the water spray from the rear, that's sweet :-) how fast was the car going in that shot?

It isn't how heavy the clutch is, it's how it engages. My Speed6 didn't have any progression. It was binary: stall it or traction control kicks in. Fixed with a TSB.
I really like the fact that my clutch holds all the power when engaged (holding probably 600hp at the flywheel), but yet I can still drive it slowly with ease! In 1st gear from a dead stop, I can let the clutch out a little bit slower than I normally would, and the car will just start rolling forward without giving any gas. I can do this even in 2nd gear too, but have to let it out even slower and it bogs a bit. It's not on/off (stall/chirp, lol)

And I've accidentally taken off in 3rd gear a few times when I was still learning to drive stick. It was a cheap clutch too, not one of the super expensive twin-disk clutches. Maybe the heavy feel of the clutch was the trade off, I don't know. Not entirely sure how long it will last either, but we'll see!

was taken from inside another car? that's sweet :) No reflections on the window?

One thing I've wanted to do for a while now was capture a car going around a turn or a straight away (from the rear), with a bunch of fall leaves flying behind it, I think that would make for a sweet shot, similar to the water spray coming off the car in your shot.

that's actually not 1/2 bad, haha! :-) you could probably fade out the blurring effect directly behind the car on the far trees, and would get an even more natural result!

Good point! something was bothering me and i think that is what it is. the first time i tried my fo-rig was this shot, and it does not have as much behind it.
