A photographer friend mentioned there being an abundance of train enthusiasts that would pay for high quality prints of their favorite lines. Something tells me this would not be legal?

To make it not so off-topic I'm going to take a wild guess that it would run into the same legal issue, whatever they may be, as selling a print of a moving truck with Penske or U-haul on its side (or even a commercial airline).

If it is art (limited prints) or editorial (book) there is more leeway than if you were selling posters. Just like in the non train world there are most likely companies that closely guard their trademark like Harley Davidson, Disney and the NFL and other don't care much. It's 'probably' not a huge deal, just don't get caught trespassing by the railroad po-lice.
