Been playing around with Photoshop and found some actions that are sometimes kinda dull, sometimes kinda cool. This one is a pastel sketch. Forgot where I found it. There's about 5 points where it requires some manual intervention so the results can vary quite a bit but I'm pretty pleased with this. I realize this is a bit above the norm for around here but still wanting some C&C. My big question mark is, even though its not a single Photoshop filter, such as colored pencil and such, and there was manual intervention requiring some subjective input, I'm wondering if the final result is unique enough to show that?

I'd probably be a little more receptive if the top of the car had some "weight" to it... and if the background were MUCH less conspicuous. Then I think it would be more "about the car." The lower portion... the car... has a nice look to it. I'd like to see the detail come back to the wheels and the roof. Then just lose about 50% of the color in the background. IMO

I noticed as well that I missed the roof when it came time to brush in some selective color. I pretty much hit the body of the car only. The background this is either a plus or a minus, depending on who you are. :) Its a landmark in Austin, the 360 Bridge. But layering and a mask, tone down the background a bit. Thanks for the feedback JT.

Speaking of backgrounds, this one is definitely more subdued than the prior. The car has a bit more of that weight you referred to. However I tried to add some greenery of the background into this one, which I'm thinking was a mistake.

Bill... I kind of like this. Little weak at the far rear... and I'd still like the background to be backed-off.... but this looks cool.

I'll have some time to play around more on Wednesday. I'll hit both these again, modify where I do the selective color in each, and layer out the background and drop its opacity, back that off a bit. Might actually work out better to layer and back-off the background before I do the conversion. Its worth trying both ways.

I used to do a similar treatment year's ago. I would mask and lift a copy of the car, then completely blow out the image with motion blur... just streaking and softening everything into a blurred oil slick... then I'd apply effects similar to yours and lay the car back down on the streaked background.

I'm curious how I would do it differently now. Fun stuff.
