Hi everyone,
Just a post to introduce myself; I'm a 30y.o. freelance photographer based in Auckland, New Zealand, specialising in motorsport, particularly motorcycle road racing. Recession or not, this is still a great time to be shooting motorsport, and my long term goal is to make it to shooting MotoGP or World Superbike racing fulltime. 2009 is the year I start looking for work overseas, and would like to find work shooting the V8 Supercar and/or Australian Superbike Championship during 2010.

My most admired photographers: Gold&Goose, Andrew Wheeler, and anyone else pointing a lens at a Superbike.

I shoot with Nikon gear and process on a Mac. Eyesight by God; foresight and hindsight by yours truly (probably my least dependable resource :) )

I LOVE this one...

No one ever thinks to stick around and shoot the aftermath.

Nice.

Hi Perry, thankyou very much!

That was an image produced as part of a brief for the March 2009 issue of NZ Racer Digital http://www.nzracer.com/nzracer_1.html Editor Ben Carrell wanted a closing image for the magazine and I thought that an image of an empty podium was a nice way to sum up the end of season. But it wasn't submitted as I overlooked it during my edit before deadline that night and sent a wider shot instead.

I came back to that set of images a few weeks ago when I put my new portfolio together and suddenly it stood out. Funny how your feelings about images can change after a bit of time away from them, huh?

Nice work Andrew. Interesting to see what happens on the other side of the world. Oh, and the Kiwi girls look rather fetching too.

Thanks Steve...it's great for me to be able to look at what's happening in your neck of the woods too. Hopefully in not-too-many years part of my July will be spent at Laguna Seca shooting MotoGP. I love press releases like http://tinyurl.com/m2rhus where you can see the spots photogs have shot iconic circuit images from.

Thing I've noticed about our grid girls is that they seem to be quite young; 17/18/19 compared to the 20/21/22 yo girls I see at V8 Supercar events....really not sure what else to say about that :)

did you ask them their age? or just guessing? I always have a hard time guessing age :o

Funny, the grid girls think I'm old enough to be a perv and not old enough to think I'm cute and harmless.

Just a guess really. They just didn't look over 20.

That's the trouble with grid girl shots...you sorta have to be a perv, don't you? I mean, they don't do much else than stand there and look pretty, but if you take their picture you become a pervert...and if you don't the editor will complain that there are no gird girl pics. The only honourable way out of that situation seems to be either to shoot them doing something (as in my pic) or be a female photographer where you can make any comment about their good/not so good bodies you want and reap no complaints at all.

eh, they are there to be pretty, that's it. if they complain about you taking a picture, tell them they should get a job at a bank or something. lol

Maybe we need a grid girl thread.
