Hello all,

As you can tell I am a newbie and just had a question about some copyright issues. I'm going to be getting a press pass for the Colorado Cog Rally coming up on the 22nd to 24th. So here's my issue: Some of the images are going to be submitted to a stock photography website, which is why I am able to get the press pass, but I was also wondering about selling prints from the race to whoever might want to buy them. Is this legal, does it depend on the sanctioning body?

Little help Morgan? :)

Thanks guys!

Ben

depends on the "stock agency" and your agreement with them. also the event and what their restrictions allow.

definately need more info. If your sole reason for getting the press pass is the agency, they might try and make some claim about how all of the images you take are theirs, and you have no rights to them.

Also, some sanctioning bodies don't allow commercial sales without special permits and releases.

I've never seen a stock agency that takes over copyright ownership. If yours does, run away! Some agencies do specify in their contract that you cannot sell the same images through another stock agency, which isn't what you're doing. In any case, read the contract. As for print sales, like Jacob and Todd say, check with the sanctioning body and promoter. It might be okay, they might require you to pay them a fee, or it might not be allowed at all.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the help guys! I know for a fact that my stock agency doesn't own my copyright to the photos, it was in the contract. I guess I'll just e-mail Rally America then!

Thanks again,

Ben
