Well, I was given 45 minutes in the saddle... a dealership parking lot and NO, we can't take it out on the road. But with only 50 ever built ... 11 in the states and with a price of nearly $2 million, I figured I'd take what I could get. But I have to say... the sensation was similar to some of those "hot" dates I had when I was 16 years old... a lot of aching... if you know what I mean.

Here's the first take... bit of a rush.. but this is the direction I think I'm going to go.

Hot! Just clean up your selections and you'll be there!

Slick! I like the idea.

If you're taking requests.... could you make one with the head-on shot and the side-on shot next to each other (final image in a panoramic format)? As a child I had a poster of a Lamborghini Countach like that (actually, they were vertical... with a rear shot as well).

Hmmm.... tell me what you're seeing.

Hmmm.... tell me what you're seeing.
probably around the rear wing/spoiler, and on my monitor, I'm seeing some red on the bottom of the tires? Not sure what that is, but it looks a little odd to me.

Great look to the whole thing though, I have never really thought about doing something like this with my pictures, great idea!

Ok... another pass at it. Getting late, though.

The spoiler on this car is very strange. It's sort of a halo over the rear deck and sits outside the fenders. Plus.. the body of it (spoiler) is shaped like and airplane wing... but with no real edge to it... it's kind of an oval shape.

Quite a car, though... I must say.

I can deffinately still see where the real #000000 background meets the MC12's underbody cut-out shadow.

Are you sure you're not seeing the chin of the head-on shot in the background? It arches between the wheels of the side profiled car.

Yeah, I'm seeing that, which I would elimate to avoide confusion. But I'm also seeing areas behind the rear wheel and in front of the front wheel where it looks like you didn't get with your eraser. There is also a halo that runs up the rear of the car and around the spoiler. I'm suprised your not seeing this, becuase I'm sure your monitor is more accurate than my Powerbook's?!

Mark
Maybe (?) you're seeing this stuff because your monitor is NOT accurate so it exagerates those things that are imperceptible on a calibrated monitor.

I've seen it happen before, it can be a simple as your monitor brightness being too high so you see all sorts of stuff in the shadows that don't show up on a calibrated monitor.

My "internet" PC is not calibrated, my "work" PC is. I just checked JT's image on my work PC and I can't really see the halo you refer to.

That's a fair point, John... and the same philosophy ultimately carries over to the print.

Regardless, there were other things that troubled me as well... and either way, I appreciate Mark's input.

So... here's a re-do.

JT,
Looks good on my MacBook Pro.
Great composition.
Hope to shoot one soon myself

I like the one without the lip/halo quite a bit more. Since we're being picky... there appears to be some lines (moving at about a 45deg angle) on the blue section of the rear wing... I like the shadow/highlights, but the lines look a little odd. Other than that, it's golden!

I agree with Todd's last post about the rear wing. I would like to see, however, More of the front. There's a brilliant grille that we can't see because of the profile shot. Do you have a dead on shot of the rear? One idea i have is a panoramic print with the head on shot on the left, profile in the middle, and rear shot on the right. I do like the blue line in this layout more than the previous. This is a poster i could see being framed nicely.

Todd: The rear wing is a work in progress. :) First of, it's the most God awful wierdest configuration I've ever seen on a car... it borders on RICE!!!! Worse, though, the rear quarter and the bulbous wing picked up all the reflections imaginable.

And, as you probably know, once you start brushing, cloning, smudging etc., you lose original color... and any "global" color adjustments you do to get the rest of the car right, the parts you've touched go beserk. :(

I've worked on it since this version... but I'm going to wait for a print to arrive before I go any further. I want to see what's really going to show.

Here's what I started with.

So I lied... here's a little more rubbin' on the wing. ;)

Austin, I appreciate the suggestion... but this is the "look" I was after.

Good Point, I'm not on a calibrated monitor. And the Powerbooks are known to be "too bright"

The last two edits are PERFECT! No halo what-so-ever. I'm really diggin the composition of the whole thing too! What a killer car!!

Looks nice on this very dark uncalibrated monitor. Can't wait to see it on the calibrated one when I get home! If you don't mind, I think I might steal..er borrow this idea after I get back from this weekends Ferrari event!
