I'll be there.
Don't know if I'll have photo creds or not. I haven't heard back yet:confused:
I've shot all year with the exception of the Vintage event WITHOUT credentials, so you shouldn't have too much of a problem. There is alot of catch fencing, but there are several spots w/o it that make for some decent pics.
You should definitely go. It will be a good event, lots of different classes to shoot.:)

i am almost sure that i am going to go on friday because i do not have classes or anything else during the day. i also want to see the track so this would be a good chance to do that.
thanks for the info

Mid-Ohio isn't impossible to shoot without photo creds, but it sure makes it easier. You can shoot Madness a lot better with photo creds, but if you don't have them and there are few people with creds, then you can shoot through the cutouts with ease without crossing into the credentialed area. The same is true for the Keyhole. If you don't get creds, I'd still go. Chances are there'll be some decent racing.

There are actually quite a few places left to shoot at Mid Ohio w/o creds.
Turn 9 (I think ?), down the hill at the bottom of the Esses, by the walk-over bridge is about as close as you are gonna get to a head-on shot w/o creds. Okay, Okay, it's actually a 3/4 or maybe a 7/8 shot, but it's still pretty good. You can also do a 180 from that spot and get a good "going away" shot of the cars cresting the hill and disappearing before turn 10/11.
The inside of turn 6, at the end of the long straight is a good spot. So is the inside of turn 1.
The inside of the Carousel, leading onto the pit straight is good, as well as the outside of the Carousel: if you have a long enough lens, you can stand atop the middle grandstand, shoot over the catch-fencing and catch the cars coming out of Thunder Valley.
There are also at least 3 or 4 photo holes that you can shoot through from the spectator side of the fence.
Good luck!

Whoever does go, post up and let us know how it was. I'm especially interested if you've also been to the SCCA Runoffs at Mid-Ohio. I'm curious to know how NASA's event stacks up.
