So I really gave this a go at Petit LeMans to take photos I would never have taken in previous years. It was VERY tough for me to think outside the box and shoot through things like trees and crowds. I also broke out the wide-angle lens for a few different perspectives. I will have another set later with more traditional shots.

I caught on to shooting thru the crowds pretty quickly, but shooting with the wide-angle was VERY tough for me.
C&C welcome, please!

I really like #1. Were you pre-focusing on the track or did you let autofocus do its thing? #5 works for me as well. #6 would be good if it it were a bit sharper. Way to try something new. Best way to improve as a photographer.

Nice shots. Great job shooting wider and through things. Very successful.#3 has a cool "ghostly" appereance to it.

I like your wide stuff better than the "through the crowd" shots.
The Audi through the trees is a bit soft and not quite there.... good effort though.
The through the crowd stuff is close... while a 1/30th is slow enough, 80mm is a bit too wide.... tighter would have given you more blur and more transparency. I think you have a bit too much "bottom" in these.... maybe just skim the top of the crowd. You've got the full back of their heads. And the Lizard shot is good.... but maybe too much guard rail. Good shot though.
The BMW shot is just to blocked up. The wide three car shot would have worked tighter while avoiding the corner worker hut.
Most importantly though.... GOOD FOR YOU for hanging it out. You went out there and did something different. You stretched yourself and you're almost there. You'll nail these shots next time out.
Good job.

+1
1 is a bit soft, but almost there, #2 would have been better a split second later, so the car was maybe between people rather than obscured by them, but really thats a luck thing, cant really 'time' it.
I also have to agree with JT on 5, if you have to, back up and shoot it telephoto, it will compress the crowd a bit so you dont have the 2 or 3 people right in front of you dominating the frame, zoom past them, skim the top of the crowd and you will have smaller patches of blurry-color-goodness, rather than a bald guy and his big blue rain jacket buddy mucking up your art. :)
Way to step up and take a big swing at it.

I like 3 and 8 the most. I've tried to sneak some shots around the bridge on the front straight, but the yellow shirts shoo people away pretty quickly. I had #1 in mind going into the weekend as well. Just didn't get there before the downpour. I think you did a good job and wil likely refine these ideas for next year.
