I am heading to Homestead for the Grand-Am and Indy Car Championship. Any advice on shooting spots on the spectator side of the fence? This will be my first time at the venue and I would like to make the most of it. I am shooting with a 5D + 100-400 and 24-70. Should I pick up a 1.4 TC or will the 400 suffice?

Ouch... not a spectator friendly track for photography. In fact... even the "other" side of the fence is pathetic.
Sorry to say, your 100-400 is going to be a challenge. Also, since that lens is f/5.6 at 400mm, as I recall, it won't autofocus with the 1:4 TC. Even if it did, your widest aperture would be f/8 at best. :(
There are a few spots you can walk around to view the Grand Am on the "road" course. I'm not sure what you'll get for IRL... maybe pit stops from opposite pit lane.
Wish I had better news for you. But it's not a photogenic site. I doubt I'll go this year.

Looking at the pictures from others i figured that. A friend offered a free ticket and ride so I will be going anyway. I am a bit spoiled shooting Sebring. Its hard to compare other venues. Maybe I can get some nice driver shots before the start in the paddock area. If nothing else it will challenge me to think outside the box (or fence:-). I did read your post about your "underwhelming" experience so I figured my options would be dismal.
Thanks for your reply John.
