I had to leave right after the ALMS race on Saturday night and get down to the Auto Club Speedway for the NASCAR race. First time shooting there and first time on a big oval. Very hard to shoot anything out of the ordinary. So, nothing new here except a bit more experience for me. Anyone else shot the oval before?

Just curious Jeff. Most of the big ovals there doesn't appear to be photo holes in the catch fences, at least from what I can see on TV. Are there some?

Oh, and #8 I like a lot. Good catch.

Yea, there are about 10 or so around the outside and maybe just as many on the inside too. They are at the bottom of the catch fence and top of the retaining wall. They are maybe a foot tall and five feet long or so. But, even though they are pretty long, because you are usually shooting at such a steep angle to the track, you can typically get only two or three people per hole...sometimes it's only one. At least four of those holes have the small remote controlled TV camera that will pan with the cars as they go by. You gotta make sure you give those little guys a wide birth to swivel around.

You can see part of the opening here:
