I do mostly weekend warrior event stuff (mortgage paying job is being a pharmacist) and on two occasions I have been asked to submit photos to publications. SuperKart Illustration out of Canada ran some photos from a Rotax race and I was credited as John Kosinski. In the October issue of Super Street (photos on page 66-67) I am Jim Kosinki. Close both times but no cigar.

For someone who does this part time, I am just happy to get my photos out where they can be seen (ok the little bit of money is good too). Here is one of the photos from the SuperStreet Mag.

Congrats, Jim! At least they came close on your name. I've had shots credited to other photographers, other photographer's shots credited to me, and no credit at all. No doubt you have that to look forward to, too!

As long as the check goes to the right person... .

Haha! Speaking of which, I'm still waiting for a check to correct the screw-up from several months ago. And I'm guessing the photo credit/check-writing randomizer will really be hard at work for the next issue!

Yeah, the worst part is having your photo credited to someone else. Having unique last names has its pros and cons. Unfortunately, when it comes to "your name is your brand," misspelling the name doesn't have too many benefits. It might if you get in touch with the editor ... maybe they'll use more of your work in the future :)

In the "pro" department, when receiving junk mail, or telemarketing calls, misspelled names and callers who can't pronounce the last name are dead giveaways on people I generally hang up on, have "interesting" conversations with or simply set down the phone for several minutes while I "page" the requested callee (who never comes).
