Over the past two months I've been working on a calendar for my car club (NorCal GOATS). Not all of these are my favorite shots, but they were the ones the committee chose to use. Overall, I'm quite happy with it considering the circumstances surrounding it. I learned quite a bit, including how to use my strobes to light something as large as a car. As always, comments are appreciated. Enjoy.

All of the low light ones seems pretty flat and could really use a boost in light. The car seems to get lost in the background.

February and March are my favorites. I kind of like December, but I think the cars need a bit more light on them.

I still see some of those GTOs around and I wouldn't mind having one. Not much on the looks department, but they're a beast.

Todd: I'm guessing by now the toothpaste is already out of the tube...

but, the last three seem to have some odd issues to them. October has grayish-yellow wheels and tires. ?? November seems to have a yellow cast .... car's not real red and tires aren't real black.

I like the concept of December, but the shadow areas seem to overpower the cars' colors and detail.

Maybe it's the size.

All in all, though... nice job.

I will say that these are the versions that went to the printer... unfortunately, they don't have a good proofing method so I had to go through several test prints. Normally, I bump-up the midtones a little bit before printing (things tend to come out a bit dark otherwise), but with this printer it was not the case... things turned-out on the lighter side (hence the darker images here).

October does has a yellowish tone to the pavement (and wheels/tires). Doing a mask and playing with the color levels a little would help take that away. I was more concerned with getting the color of the car correct, I didn't even notice that.

November the car (at least on my display) is TOO red... I had quite a time making adjustments without it blowing-out and loosing all detail. I should have gone in with the PS armor-all and blackened-up his tires for him.

Constructive criticism like this is very much appreciated, even if this project is in finished... I'm always learning new things to look for/at. Showing this stuff to the car owners is no help in that department, they just love everything.

Todd: Just fort the sake of accuracy, the "red" car is an orange-red... like Chinese restaurant red on my end.

You're so right about shooting static. It's like proof-reading.... you can do it a hundred times and then find something you missed. It's brutal.

I did a shoot the other day out at Sebring that I had NO IDEA I would be shooting. The images came out fine, but by no means what I would have liked. Someone commented that the clouds in the glass looked really cool and I should strengthen them up in Photoshop.... and I'm like... GAGGING. I hate the clouds in the windshield. LOL - I guess we just see differently than the rest of the world and that's why we charge the big bucks. LOL

Well I own a 2005 GTO so I love the idea of this calender. The shots leave me wanting more light August is my favorite shot. Use more light on the bumper and January is my favorite Goat.
