I upgraded my XTi to a 7D. A HUGE upgrade. I was thinking of just going with a refurb 40D because I didn't think the 50D was a significant jump. Then Canon announced the 7D and I thought I might as well make the big leap. The XTi served my needs for three years. But, I eventually realized that the (slower) autofocus and high ISO performance was becoming an issue for me. I don't have it completely dialed in yet. But, with all the autofocus modes it has, putting a single focus point where you want it still seems to be the trick for on-track stuff. Anyway, here are a few samples.

What's the EXIF data on #4? Pretty nice look.

Thanks JT. The EXIF is, f/25, 1/20s, 17.0mm, ISO200. Taken from the inside of T17/Sebring at 5:05pm EST. I'm sure you know where it is, but maybe others don't :-) This was on Sat. of the last HSR race. I was too chicken to deal with the rain on Fri. so I didn't show up until around noon on Sat. Fortunately, there were some interesting clouds hanging around late in the afternoon!
I'm just figuring out how to link these in from my online archive. Looks like the EXIF didn't stay intact.

Very well done! Yet another reminder for me that I usually shoot too tight.

Thanks guys. The cure for shooting too tight is just be too poor to have long & fast glass, LOL!
Actually, I do have a 70-200 f/4L and have been renting a 300 f/4L. From the combination of reading JT's blogs and not having credentials that gets me in closer, I've tried some looks that take advantage of where I'm allowed to plant my feet. So not just shooting loose, but quite wide. (Thanks JT!)
A shot #4 with a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. It's pretty good glass for the money, albeit not as fast focusing as the L glass. I'l have a 24-105 f/4L for this weekend's Rolex 24 so it will be interesting to see how it performs with these types of shots. Say hello if you see me up in the stands.:D
Here are a couple of looks from basically the same spot at Daytona.

Great shots! I'm in the same position, been using the XTI for 3 years and occasionally get to use a 5D and D700. I've been contemplating between the 40D and 7D and waiting for more feedback on it to know which route to take. Even dabbling on the idea of a 1D mark II despite the dated LCD screen...

Very nice images. I just picked up a 7D as well. I will post images from the AMA Superbike test shortly.

great images, I too really need to upgrade from my XTi, and the 7D is what I am aiming for. I really like those last two you posted.

Great Shots Blake! I just picked up the 7D this week as well so I will be poor with you and use my 70/200 2.8 for the time being! Wonderful shots!
