Aperture 3 has finally been released by Apple, you can get all the details here:
http://www.apple.com/aperture/
Some welcome interface changes, (full screen, multiple libraries, better project management, etc) but it's got a lot of things that most would consider fluff. Lots of iPhoto-like features facial recognition & gps tagging, significantly broadened editing tools, and very complex slideshow abilities.
It is of course 64-bit to take advantage of Snow Leopard and the Grand Central thread management system. Only trying it out will tell me if it's any faster or slower with all the extra doo-dads.
The "Send me a demo serial number" system seems to be broken right now, but hopefully it will be up soon.
Given that JT didn't even like the idea of adding a "random order" option to the screen shots, I doubt he'll thank Apple for this one! I don't share that same need for austerity in my library management app, but the new features seem touch superfluous even for me. I wonder if the next version is going to include the kitchen sink and an expresso machine.
Actually, the way my editing/sorting nights go, maybe the expresso machine wouldn't be such a bad plan. *Runs off to the Apple suggestions page*
