The basic info:
I have three batteries that I share between a D70 and D70s. Two are the Nikon brand, the other is an offbrand (Power2000 as I recall). I use the two Nikon chargers (the d70 MH-18 and the d70s' version which is a MH-18e). Over the past two years I've shot 200+ events and would venture to guess the batteries have been charged 100-200 times each.
Problem:
I used to go a full day of shooting (1500-2000 shots) between two cameras and near the end of the day have to switch out one of the batteries (typically after getting 1000-1200 shots or better, depending on how much I chimp for histo and highlights). The batteries are now lasting for perhaps 33-50% of the shots they have in the past. At an event this weekend, shooting primarily one camera, I had to change the batteries twice (use all 3 batteries) just to get 1000-1500 shots).
The Question:
What's the life expectancy of a Li-Ion battery? I've had this gear for about two years, very little has changed as far as how I charge batteries, what chargers I use, etc so I'm a bit perplexed as to why all three of my batteries, both Nikon and off brand, are showing the same signs of failure.
P.S. After doing a bit of research, it seems that they should last 300+ charges. Should I just buck up and buy more batteries or is there a tried and true method to get some life back out of the current ones?
