You get what you ask for? I'm looking to sell mine as well and want to get around $1000. How many shutter actuations were on yours?

Yes, got my price. Not sure how many actuations were on it, Nikon had reset it when they last did some service. I think it was something like 40-50k

Hmmm...I'll probably get a little less than. I think I've got something like 120,000 on mine. Headed out to drop it off at Nikon now for a good cleaning...

Figured I better get rid of it before it is a paperweight like my D1x's. I was only using it as a back up camera so replacing it with a D300s for now to keep a dx format in the bag and have some video capability

That's pretty much what I'm doing, except with a D90. I haven't touched the D2X in over a year, and I've wanted a smaller DSLR to travel with. If I'm going to have a backup camera, I might as well have one that I will actually use.
BTW, did you get your D2X serviced at Nikon? They quoted me $300 just to clean and inspect it. Geeze...I'm glad my stuff doesn't need repairing very often...

That sounds about right. I had the ten pin connector break and it cost a bit over $400 to fix. I think the minimum charge for them to do anything to the pro cameras is $300. that said, I've had several repairs on various cameras over the years and they always seem to go above and beyond what the camera is in for. When I had the 10 pin connector repaired, they also went through the camera and made adjustments, cleaned it and re-calibrated it.
Are you NPS?
I just got my D300s today and it is pretty cool, you might want to look into that instead of the D90 as it basically operates like a D3, so it will be easier to adjust to.

I'm not in NPS. I've had the intention of applying for a while but haven't gotten around to it. Are there any actual benefits?
I'd love to get the D300S, but I don't know if I can justify spending the extra $600 since it will be a backup.

I am not NPS either, at the time I went to register for it, people were all switching to Canon because of the silly mp race, so I couldn't find two NPS members to vouch for me (part of the requirement) :( I never tried again. Supposedly, you get faster repair turnaround and loaner equipment.
I wasn't going to get the "s" version and just find myself a used D300 for under $1k, but decided the video function was worth it to me (just made my first video last night, good fun). I think I would do a used D300 over an D90, though I have not used the D90, but it seems a bit too "consumer"

I've been considering NPS too, but also don't have the sponsors.
