A few from last weekends Vintage GP at Mid-Ohio. JT called me out over on Facebook, wanted some 'vintage' looks, some B&W, even dared me to put down the 500mm !!! Well, I couldn't exactly do THAT.... thats like dividing by zero isn't it? LOL. Anyway here are a few of what I came away with..... C&C is always welcome.

Well, you certainly rose to the occasion... and the challenge.
#1 flat out kicks ass.
Gotta love #5 and #6. I think the only give-away (that they're not genuine vintage B&W film) is no film shooter would have ever wasted enough film to drop the shutter that slow. LOL
Awesome!

I like how you posted #7 with the number on the car as #7. Clever.. :)
Shoot, this is an awesome set. One really caught my eye, but I really like 8. If they had an older helmet on, you'd think it was a 40's era shot, except it's too sharp.
Sorry I missed out coming up there. I wouldn't have had to worry about white balance settings. :)

really impressive set, I can't see them being color, B/W is too fitting. Thanks for sharing them.

In-as-much as Chris is receiving well deserved credit on this set, I think he'll be the first to tell you, these shots have all been done before. Where Chris has excelled is in his THINKING and making an opportunity of a situation.
Vintage racing is a bit of sweet and sour. The cars are awesome and "fresh" from a shooting perspective. Especially on a natural terrain course like Mid-Ohio. Unfortunately, by lumping similar cars together in a hodge-podge of race-heats, the action shots tend to get spoiled by the promoters broad definition of "similar." Plus with the roadsters, the modern (required) helmets can spoil the look.
Vintage is a great opportunity to play with black and white and bring a fresh look to shots you've done before. Chris does those shots well ... after all, he is Mr. Mid-Ohio, :) - and his black and white conversions are on the money.
So the real compliment and critique should go to Chris' ability and willingness to blast out of those mental sand traps and to make something happen.

I like them, especially #4. I think it's the slightly muted tones that I like. Not under exposed, but just dark enough. :)
My only suggestion would be to try putting a slight bit of film grain on the photos. If I have the chance and the ability, I like using slightly faster film that gets a bit more film grain. But usually my addiction for fast lenses means I use the slowest film I can. The grain though, I love. Maybe try some next round? Especially for prints.
