Ok, I screwed up and deleted a bunch of photos before I downloaded them. I pulled the CF card out right away to prevent over writing the deleted files. Does any one know a good way to recover them? I tried a couple of free software downloads, but the best one only recoved about a third of the files. Which is not bad but the file names have changed and they have been given a tiff extention when they are cr2 files. There is no way to preview them I just have to rename each file to see what it is and there are 900 files. The photos are just some family shots I would like to recover without spending to much money or time to do it. Any suggestions?
Thanks Jim

sandisk has a recovery software that I believe they have on their site for free.
I used it some time ago when I thought someone was done with the CF card that I had loaned them, I formatted it and started using it again, but they had not copied their files over yet! All the files were recovered. I'd check out the sandisk recovery software, but I'm sure there are others as well.
Sounds like you have already tried some recovery software though. It may be gone for good :-\

Thanks Daniel, I downloaded the program. Currently it is working on it ~2.5 hours is the predicted time to recover them. We see how it works. It is no longer free, you have to pay to get your files, but it is suppose to show you what you can expect before you pay.

I've always had good results with these packages. I actually recovered a few Raid 0 drive arrays with this software that would have cost me thousands to send in to a lab.

Thanks for the suggestions. I finished off using ZAR mostly because it was free and because comparing it to Rescue Pro that Daniel suggested it seemed to get comparable results (based on the free 25 files they allow). However Rescue Pro only took 4 hours to recover the data that ZAR took about 10 hours to recover. The program Aaron suggested I am sure is a good one too, but it was far more than I wanted to spend to recover some "fun" photos.
Cheers Jim
