Hi there
I'm new here and found my way through John Thawley's signature on Photogrpahy On The Net forums.
From browsing the forum, it looks like a good place to learn and get opinions. Most forums seems to have too much 'nice pics' responses when what i really want is some constructive comments.
so, here we go :)
some photos from a very wet british F3 race at thruxon last weekend.

any c+c for me?
obviously the marshals (in orange) are a bit distracting in the senna pic, and i should have shown a bit more motion in that photo too as it looks a slow

I like the ocmposition in the first image, unfortunately, it's too soft.
Second image is good... I might have waited a few more beats following a bit in order to have the car more in the foreground. That would have played down the pit boards and allowed the chase cars to take part in the image. I don't know, though... it's pretty nice.
Finally, the third image is sharp and good color... the orange is a bit harsh... but I think had you lowered the car in the frame, the orange suits might have been more of the background clutter.. right now, they're half the subject matter. Too much road.
Stay dry!!!

To add to what JT said, the first image would work if the helmet was sharp. W/ these shots the drivers is what we are after.
On the second, getting more of the rooster tail would be great.
Good start though

you are right about the rooster tail.. quite a few other photographers had good rooster tails on their photos but they were in a much slower section of the track. my problem was that the section i was at was so fast that you could hardly see any cars (apart from the leader) because of the spray
thanks for the comments guys. i'm still a beginner in my eyes, so i take on board all the comments
its interesting about the helmet being in focus. i took this photo with the helmet in focus, but wanted to see what you guys thought of the one where the 'jakesy.com' was in focus

If it was for a 'jakesy.com' ad, the first one would be perfect... but for me, I like the driver's hemlet being sharp. The second shot is just great... the high contrast with the colors (compared with the silver) really makes it pop as well. Very nicely done!

I like the second version (helmet sharp). The first would also work if your objective was the wheel and tyre manufacturers.
On the third shot...the background doesn't really give me much info about what kind of circuit Thruxton is or if the event had any fans in attendance. The brick building and the orange suites are a lot of the subject.
Welcome to the site, look forward to seeing more from you.

Another one for the helmet sharp version.
May have been said but, I'd like to see the second one with the car in the bottom left corner with the spray being what it was at that part of the circuit.
I do like the Senna shot, and knowing Thruxton as it is, I think you've done a good job with it, one of the more original chicane shots.
Dennis: Thruxton is a very flat airfield circuit, the main spectator area(s) are located behind Gary and quite a way behind and far back from the catch fencing as well. A spectator shot would be a nightmare at Thruxton because I belive, like the spectators, photographers are only allowed around part of the track, on one side only as out the back it is marshals posts, fields and tree-lined ditches about a third of a mile away from the track!
