I often think I have sold photos too cheap. Or, that magazines pay too little for top work. What's a magazine cover worth, for example, for a national magazine? How much is commercial shooting work worth? What's the day rate? Does anybody care to share?

There are too many variables in the whole thing... SI vs. C&D/R&T vs. RACER... all national magazines, but quite different # of copies published. Commercial shooting depends on how the image is going to be used... medium used, size, number of copies, time, etc. Day rates should depend more on what it costs you to do business... so that could be drastically different for everyone... but also changes with who you are shooting for, how they want to use the images, etc.

A good resource is fotoquote (http://www.fotoquote.com/). It has some ranges for almost every type of sale I've looked-up.

it's just like a movie star. nearly every time you get work, you have to negotiate your terms. But i'd say most mag covers are paying 500-1500, depending on circulation.
