I know we have talked here and other places before about people coming back from a race and showing the same photos and talked about how there are only so many places and angles to shoot most of the time.

Well, here is a new spin on it for football photographers.

Here are two shots that recently were in the "clip contest" on Sports Shooter.

I thought this was crazy as its one thing for two guys to come home with the same car from the same corner after its beein in that corner a couple hundred times over a weekend...but for two guys to come home with virtually the same shot of the same instant of one single play during a game...thats got to be depressing, especially when one beats the other in a contest. :D

Hmm...you can see both faces better on the 2nd one...but the first one is a little bit wider so you can see where they are...:D

That's pretty funny though!

Yeah but.....

Jimmy, John & Regis. Just hope Regis doesn't sue me for hi-jacking his image. :)

its just nice to see some actual sports on sportshooter :)
i was beginning to think that houses on fire and road traffic accidents were sports :)

I thought that was you looking for your next angle. After all, that is a RED ZONE!! I guess he missed the photo meeting that morning.

'Phew... good thing it's not me... I got some GREAT shots from there, maybe it was a good thing I didn't go to the photo meeting.

Only kidding... I stayed in the green (didn't go back under the banners). When I was over there (earlier in the race) there was a TV guy, but that was all. I don't recognize the "weenie"

NFL football and NCAA football is tough simply for the fact that there is so much going on on the sidelines. The best spots are had in the endzones down low and the shots show. There really isnt too much peak action at a race. There might be 2 or 3 photographers positioned at one turn, but unless there is a horrible wreck, the cars just drive. With football where the ball is, is where the peak action will be and every photographer in the place is concentrated on that one spot, so naturally similar shots will be had. Trying to dodge cameramen, snakes, TV crews, security, bands, cheerleaders, kickers practicing, and the nice guy who's job it is to go around and see which players are out of uniform and hand out fines is tough. im not saying motorsports is harder or easier to photograph its just a different scenario.

what's all this red, blue, cerise zone stuff? Sounds like some flower planting landscape tool...

The first thing that I think causes the "1st place" image to stand out is that you actually see the turf, so you get a better sense of where the players are. The "3rd place" image clips out the foot of the intended receiver, so for all we know, that foot is touching the turf. The "1st place" image tells a better story.
