Uh, OH... What should I Do?

Some of you already know that I was recently published for the first time. While I'm still pretty pumped about it, I have come across my first dilemma:

One of the photos in the article is mine, but was credited to someone else. I know it is mine. Unless by some freak chance this guy got the same photo at the exact same time as me. Entirely possible, but honestly, from that location, and my memories of that weekend, very unlikely. I know it is mine. I have the original on my PC and it matches exactly.

So, what should I do? To be honest I really am not all that concerned about credit, but I would like to get paid for it, it is a 1/3 of a full page photo. Should I contact the editor? Let it go? Wait and see if I get paid for it despite the miscredit? :confused: Help!!

contact the editor, tell him you saw tha this photo was credited to someone else but you know its yours, and ask him how it can be worked out. You should get paid for it, its just a matter of bringing it to their attention.

how was your payment arranged? flat rate? or per-photo-published?

Editors fudge credits all the time. I've had my name mispelled more times than it's been correct (which is part of why I started using business names). But as long as the check clears the bank, i'm happy ;)

I've had images credited to other people that were mine, credited to me that were shot by others, not credited at all, and--the most popular--mispelled. It's always honest mistakes and it happens all the time. I'm sure a nice note to the editor will make it right.

I had that happen, it was a big image as well, about half a page in a magazine. But I got the cheque for it, so it's all good.

A few weeks ago I had a photo from an Irish rallycross event credited to me... except I was in Belgium shooting historic sports cars at the time...
