finally broke down and got a #5 brightscreen for my 1Ds2 (large split circle with a surrounding microprism ring). This isn't really a review of the screen as I haven't had a chance to use it for real shooting yet, but from what I can tell I love it. It's quite a bit brighter than my canon screens, and I love the fine microprism ring, the individual prisms are much finer and smaller than the canon microprism, and they seem to be very effective for focusing, along with the main split circle. The main split circle is quite a bit larger, which I like. My only thought is that it would be nice to have a 45 degree split, instead of a horizontal split, which is one of the features I like on my contax screen. I don't think brightscreen offers that though.

I'll comment more on it later as I get a chance to use it for some real shooting.

I think I'll grab one of these guys for my contax and mamiya bodies :D

You'll love it on the Mamiya. Especially if you are using a prism finder.

right now I'm using the waste level finder, I don't think I'll be wanting a prism finder.

It's easier to compose with a waistlevel finder becasue you are looking at a 2 dimensional image on the ground glass. As soon as you look through a prism you seem to be looking at a 3 dimensional subject rather than the final 2 dimensional image. I prefer ground glass any day.

after about a month of shooting, I think I'm going to remove the screen and put in the canon split screen. The metering seems to be doing some odd things. Just an update on this thread :-) I'll have to sit down and do a few tests to see if it's just the situations that I'm in, or if infact the metering is altered more with the brightscreen than the canon split.
