Playing around @ M-O today for the SCCA event. Got bored of the same old shots (no credentials) so I experimented a bit. Not sure if I like them or not:confused:

My take on using foreground to show motion a la John Thawleys "Is This Anything" thread

Believe it or not, I actually DE-Saturated this in PShop...

Let me know what you think as I am still undecided on most of these:)

I really like #6. It's very cool.

#1, #3 and #4 were pretty similar, and for ME, the "blurry back end" really draws my eye in a not-so-good way.

I think #5 still has something to offer, perhaps if the brightness were knocked down some more?

#2 seems a little lost in the trees for me.

#1 and #3 work great... there's a nice sharp point in the image for your eyes to focus to. #4 is a little soft on the front for my taste. #2 doesn't really work for me... I like the idea of using the foreground... but you really need to have some definition there (IMO). #4 just looks blurry to me, and the front/rear are cut-off. #5 is nice, just wish the car was a little sharper. Overall, very nicely done.

I like #6, although a little more open room around the front of the car might make it work better. The red ARMCO and the other content help from the car well.

I think #5 is too bright.

Watch out for glare and hot white areas on the cars (like the front of the Nissan).

I think #3 is the best of your slow-shuitter, 3/4 pans.

I think most of the traditional images show good techniqe... but I think you've missed on the basics. They suffer from center-syndrom and being to high in the frame. The Nissan, for me, is spot-on.

The car is low in the frame and with this style shot, I like that the subject "leading" in the frame with the blur and background trailing.

Thats a good point. Going through the majority of my pictures yesterday, and you are right, they are all mostly centered. I'll have to be more concious of that in the future.:)

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I have season tickets to Mid-Ohio and they let us into the Club races for free, so it provides a good opportunity to screw around with different shots, practice consistency with old ones, and try to learn new things I otherwise wouldn't try at a "major" event.:)
