Default Red Bull Air Race Detroit....

Not sure if I should post this here or not seeing as it's not automotive, but it's motorsports and they do have wheels....

Went to the Red Bull Air Races last weekend in Detroit. It was the first time the race was held in two countries simultaneously, Detroit and Windsor, Canada. Between the 2 there was an estimated 750,000 people in attendance. Too bad the show wasn't that big.

The afternoon practice on Friday got scrubbed due to wind, both qualifying runs on Saturday were also scrubbed. We only had one qualifying run Sunday followed by the semi-finals, then the finals. They skipped both the "Point One" and "Super Eights" rounds. All told I had about 20 minutes total "track time" the entire weekend. Kind of bummed.

Other than that: What a spectacular show! These things are incredible....

Here are a few I liked:

Nicely done! #5 does a good job of showing the proximity of the pylons to the ground and the relative altitudes.

From what I've heard, San Diego had better races but the city of Detroit loved having the event.

This was an awesome day! I was autocrossing on Belle Isle that Sunday but had time to step out and get a few shots from the edge of the island. even with a 500mm it was too far away...
The planes circled over us before they did their runs. The best part was when the FA 18 Hornet broke hte sound barrier above us and set all the car alarms off.
